“Pioneering Excellence: HAMI EcoFarms Collaborates with MARDI and FAMA to Elevate Malaysia’s Premium Japanese Melons”
Nestled in Batu Gajah, HAMI EcoFarms welcomed a distinguished delegation from MARDI and FAMA as part of a collaborative initiative to elevate Malaysia’s first premium-Japanese-melon cultivation project. According to the MARDI Perak Director, the partnership centres on enhancing post-harvest handling and preparing the estate’s output for broader markets. Through this engagement, HAMI EcoFarms is further acknowledged as a pioneer in high-quality organic cultivation.
During the visit, MARDI and FAMA officers were briefed on the unique cultivation methods HAMI employs — from vine management where each plant is trained to carry a single fruit to ensure uniform size and weight, to meticulous organic soil practices that sacrifice speed for soil health and longevity. The delegation also toured the greenhouse infrastructure and production zones, gaining first-hand insight into how HAMI balances premium quality with sustainable farming practices.

One of the key focus areas discussed was the urgency of efficient post-harvest logistics: given the limited shelf-life of these premium melons, the window from harvest to consumer delivery is critical. MARDI committed to providing consultancy that spans storage, handling, and export readiness. Similarly, FAMA affirmed its role in supporting market access and promoting the niche product to discerning local and potentially international channels.
This strategic collaboration underscores HAMI EcoFarms’ ambition not only to set new benchmarks in Malaysia’s fruit industry but to champion an integrated “farm to table”-mindset focused on premium, locally sourced produce. As HAMI continues to refine its processes and align with the expert guidance of MARDI and FAMA, the future looks bright for this premium Japanese melon venture and the broader mission of elevating Malaysian agriculture.
